You can now try the Nothing Phone 3's controversial new Glyph Matrix for yourself
by Dallas Thomas · Android PoliceIf you couldn't already tell by the cadence of the teases that Nothing has been drip-feeding us lately, a new flagship Phone 3 from the Carl Pei brand is due out very soon. In fact, this time around, the fledgling phone maker is gearing up for a proper launch in the US, complete with Amazon availability and all.

But this launch won't be without controversy, if only because of some odd design choices the company seems to be making with the Nothing Phone 3. Leaks show a stark departure from the Phone 2, and Nothing itself has confirmed that the fan-favorite Glyph Interface is being killed off. Now, we're getting a chance to try its direct replacement, the Glyph Matrix.
Meet the Glyph Mirror
Nothing's UK website now lets you try the Phone 3's new Glyph Mirror tool, a feature that will evidently allow you to use the dot matrix LED display on the backside of the phone to shoot selfies with the rear cameras (via Sanju Choudhary). Just pull up the site on your smartphone or a computer with a webcam, and make sure to hit the Stay on button if you're prompted to redirect to another version of the site.
From there, snap a photo and adjust the Contrast slider to make the image easier to see. The result is a fairly abstract depiction of yourself, but it's easy to see how such a display would still be useful for framing a shot with the rear-facing cameras on the Nothing Phone 3.
This new, circular secondary display will reside in the top-right corner of the rear panel on the Nothing Phone 3, replacing the Glyph Interface lights that came before it. While this is clearly a functional upgrade in some ways — after all, the outgoing Glyph lights were simply abstract shapes — it's a drastic design departure from the brand's previous models. The Phone 1, 2, 2a, 2a Plus, 3a, and 3a Pro all featured very similar Glyph Interface lights.
We're expecting Nothing to unveil the Phone 3 on July 1st. The latest rumors suggest it will feature a large 5,150mAh battery with charging speeds of up to 65W, and while it should have a very capable processor, it likely won't be a flagship SoC in the truest sense. The price tag is expected to be in the $800 range, but we'll know more this weekend when the wraps come off.
