Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8's battery may leave you disappointed
by Chethan Rao · Android PoliceThe Galaxy Z Flip 7 debuted last July with a decent set of upgrades from the Z Flip 6. In addition to the larger 4.1-inch cover screen, Samsung also bundled in a larger 4,300mAh battery pack, a decent upgrade from the Z Flip 6's 4,000mAh unit. With Samsung's next flip-style foldable expected by July, we're beginning to get early information on its battery capacity, and it's not great news.
According to the folks at GalaxyClub, Samsung does not intend to make any drastic changes to the Z Flip 8's battery later this summer. The Dutch-language publication notes that the foldable will use EB-BF776 and EB-BF777 batteries with capacities of 1,150mAh and 3,024mAh, respectively. Put together, this comes down to 4,174mAh, which is the same capacity as the Galaxy Z Flip 7's battery, although it's marketed as 4,300mAh.
While the batteries on the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will have slightly different capacities than those used in the Galaxy Z Flip 7, that may not amount to much, as it's still the same battery capacity on paper. It's also worth noting that this doesn't necessarily mean the Z Flip 8's battery life will be worse or the same as the Z Flip 7.
It's not all doom and gloom for the Galaxy Z Flip 8's battery
As GalaxyClub notes, initial tests show that Samsung has achieved better battery life on the newly released Galaxy S26 Ultra, despite sporting the same battery as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This makes us hopeful that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could well achieve better battery life, even if the combined capacity is unchanged from the last-gen model.
A leak in January, also from the same source, revealed that Samsung may stick with a relatively unchanged camera arrangement. This means you can expect a 50MP primary sensor, coupled with a 12MP ultrawide unit on the back/cover screen, in addition to a 10MP front camera.

But it's not all bad news, as reports out of South Korea have suggested that Samsung may retain the same price tag for both the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the Z Fold 8. It will be interesting to see how the company will achieve this feat, considering the global memory shortage driven by the ever-increasing demand from the AI industry.

Keen observers will also know that Samsung has a third foldable in the works, codenamed H8. It is expected to feature a wider body than the Z Fold 8 and is seemingly a response to Apple's rumored first foldable, which may offer a similar wide display, and debut in September.
