OnePlus has confirmed the OnePlus 15's battery size — and it's absolutely enormous
by Mark Jansen · Android PoliceIt's confirmed: The OnePlus 15 is having the world's oddest reveal event. Instead of showing it off all at once, OnePlus is apparently announcing the phone bit-by-bit, across multiple stages and Weibo posts. After showing off a new design and refresh rate, it's the turn of the battery to have its time in the sun. And it's been worth waiting for, as it's utterly enormous.
The OnePlus 15 will have a massive 7,300mAh battery, as confirmed by OnePlus's Weibo account (via 9to5 Google).
The OnePlus 15's battery is officially huge
But it's nothing new in China
Named the "Glacier Battery", the OnePlus 15's battery size is now official, and it's something else, at least compared to the size of batteries we're used to in the west. Clocking in at a massive 7,300mAh, the OnePlus 15's battery is orders of magnitude larger than most of its competition. It's 46% larger than the 5,000mAh battery in the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, and 40% larger than the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s 5,200mAh battery. It's even a big upgrade over the OnePlus 13's battery size, being 22% larger than its predecessor's already impressive 6,000mAh cell.
This Glacier Battery is being positioned as a gaming battery, and OnePlus seemed keen to highlight that it's meant for high-end games that can take advantage of the 165Hz refresh rate. Whether OnePlus will lean hard into the OnePlus 15 as a gaming phone remains to be seen.
What the OnePlus 15's battery size will actually mean in real use won't be known until we've had a chance to play with it, but the OnePlus 13 was already a phone with two days of battery life — so it's fair to expect the OnePlus 15 to soar past two days and shoot for three on a single charge.
Speaking of charging, OnePlus has also outdone itself in charging speed too. According to the same post that confirmed the battery size, the OnePlus 15 will sport a 120W charging rate, a 20W uplift over the OnePlus 13. Wireless charging will stay at the same speed though, settling down at 50W — which is faster than most of its competition charges through a wire.
Of course, it's not clear yet whether the OnePlus 15 will charge at that speed in the US or not. The OnePlus 13 was limited to 80W in the US, and it's possible the OnePlus 15 will too.
It's also important to note that such large batteries are only a rarity in the west. In OnePlus's Chinese homeland, the newest generation of flagship phones has been jumping into 7,000mAh sizes, so, it's not unusual that the OnePlus 15 would too.
However, it's also important to note that some of these Chinese phones, when released in Europe or the US, have reduced their battery sizes. The Honor Magic 8 Pro was one such phone, reducing its battery size from 7,100mAh to 6,270mAh. That's still much larger than most of the phones you can buy in the US though, so it'll be hard to feel short-changed if something similar happens to the OnePlus 15.
The OnePlus 15 is launching in China on October 27, and will likely come to the rest of the world shortly after that.
