One UI 8 could bring a DeX redesign courtesy of Google's new desktop mode

by · Android Police

Summary

  • Samsung could be working on a new DeX experience in One UI 8 that's influenced by Google's Android 16 desktop mode.
  • There are also a wealth of general UI changes that are being worked on with One UI 8 as well.
  • The One UI 8 update should primarily focus on refinements, and not major changes.

While it isn't the most important feature to have on an Android device, expanding a phone to a PC-like experience just by connecting to an external display can come in handy, especially when you need a little more power and freedom. We've seen Samsung push this kind of setup with DeX, and it appears that Google is also making an effort to highlight this type of experience with its next Android release.

With that said, we're now getting news that the DeX experience in One UI 8 could leverage these changes by Google, which could introduce a new redesign. And the best part is that we're getting an early look at the changes thanks to a post on X by user IposDev. In addition, the user also posted One UI 8 changes that appear to take inspiration from Google's Android 16 redesign.

A beefed-up DeX could be in the works

Of course, while things look quite interesting here, it's important to note that this is all stuff that's still a work in progress. But it's great to be able to see some of the visual changes in the X post, which compares the older DeX UI to the newer one that was discovered.

So, while it looks like it could arrive to devices in the near future, there's always the chance that something could change, and this is all that we'll ever see of it. The good news is that we most likely won't have to wait all that long to find out.

There has been lots of news swirling around that indicates that One UI 8 will arrive this summer with the release of Samsung's latest foldable phones. With that said, users shouldn't expect any major changes to the OS, as One UI 8 will be focusing on refinements more than anything.

Perhaps what many are concerned about is Samsung having another delayed roll out of its update which plagued One UI 7. While the majority of devices should now have the update, it took an unusual amount of time for the brand to roll out the software to older Samsung phones.

Plus, even after release, there were still problems with the software for some phones. Hopefully, the rollout of the One UI 8 update will be a lot smoother. I don't think many loyal Samsung fans can take another delayed release of a major update.
