Samsung could be giving Galaxy S26+ the ultra-wide upgrade it really needs

by · Android Police

The spotlight may currently be on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, but leaks about Samsung's next-generation Galaxy S26 series are already beginning to surface. Just last week, we saw a report hinting at a major camera upgrade for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, along with some under-the-hood improvements across the lineup. Now, a new leak reveals one long-overdue camera change coming to the Galaxy S26+.

According to a report from reliable leaker Roland Quandt (via WinFuture.de), the Galaxy S26+ could finally get an upgraded ultra-wide camera sensor, moving to a 50MP sensor in Samsung's upcoming flagship series.

Internally, the Galaxy S26 lineup is reportedly codenamed "NPA" or "Next Paradigm," and will include three models: "NPA1" (likely the base Galaxy S26), "NPA2" (expected to be the Galaxy S26+ or possibly the Galaxy S26 Edge), and "NPA3" (the Galaxy S26 Ultra).

Galaxy S26+ might finally get the camera upgrade the Plus series needed

According to the leak, the Galaxy S26 Ultra (NPA3) will feature a new 200MP Sony sensor and an upgraded 50MP 5x optical zoom lens. While that aligns with earlier leaks, the new detail here is that the mid-tier NPA2 model will also receive a 50MP ultra-wide angle camera — an upgrade we have been waiting on for years.

Samsung has been using the same 12MP ultra-wide lens on its base and mid-tier Galaxy S models since the Galaxy S20+ launched in 2020. While the Galaxy S25 Ultra introduced a 50MP ultra-wide lens this year, the base and Plus models were left behind. If this leak holds true, that's finally set to change.

The 50MP ultra-wide sensor should result in noticeably sharper ultra-wide shots and improved video clarity. However, it's still unclear if the baseline Galaxy S26 will get the same camera upgrade.

Interestingly, the report also reiterates that Samsung is seriously considering phasing out the "Plus" model entirely in favor of the Edge variant. Given how closely the Galaxy S25+ and S25 Edge were priced — and considering the Edge model's slower sales — this strategy could help better differentiate the lineup and push more buyers toward the new middle-tier offering.
