Cyclonic circulation may bring rain to Tamil Nadu from March 10
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduA cyclonic circulation is likely to trigger widespread rain in the State from March 10 to 13. The wet spell will be of heavy intensity in south Tamil Nadu on March 11.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, the weather models have indicated a tendency for a gradual rise in day temperature by two degrees Celsius in many parts of the State till Monday (March 10). The maximum temperature may rise two to three degrees Celsius above average in a few pockets of Tamil Nadu till Monday.
There may be a dip in the day temperature after Tuesday (March 11), once the weather system over interior Tamil Nadu moves closer to the region, officials said. Coastal parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may start receiving rainfall of light to moderate intensity from March 10.
P. Senthamarai Kannan, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, said the cyclonic circulation is likely to influence widespread rainfall on March 11 as it moves across the region. The wet spell may last for two or three days.
While many places in Tamil Nadu may get light to moderate rain, 12 south and interior districts, including Tirunelveli, Thanjavur, Sivaganga, Kanniyakumari, and Ramanathapuram, will get heavy rain on Tuesday.
The RMC expects the wet spell to be limited to isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu till March 13 (Thursday), before it fades away. Recording extreme variations in day and night temperatures in places such as Karur Paramathi, Mr. Kannan said clear sky and dry weather led to diurnal variations, resulting in hot days and significantly cool nights.
On Saturday (March 8), Erode recorded the hottest day temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius in the State. Chennai’s Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded an above-normal temperature of 33.4 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius respectively. None of the weather stations in Tamil Nadu registered rainfall.
Coastal places such as Chennai may experience mist/haze cover on Sunday as the minimum temperature is still at 23 to 24 degrees Celsius, and there is moisture in the atmosphere. The day temperature would hover around 35 to 36 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
