Google Pixel 9a with Tensor G4 launched in India: Camera, battery, price and availability

Google will provide 7 generation of OS and 7 years of security updates to the Pixel 9a

Google on Wednesday (March 19, 2025) launched Pixel 9a in India. The compact and ‘affordable’ smartphone in the entire Pixel 9 series line up, the Google Pixel 9a uses the same Tensor G4 processor found in Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold that were launched in August last year.

With the new Pixel 9a, the U.S. based company intends to take on Apple’s ‘affordable’ iPhone 16e.

Google Gemini comes integrated in Pixel 9a and most of the other features of the higher end models will also be available on it except a few like Pixel Screenshot.

Google will provide 7 generation of OS and 7 years of security updates to the Pixel 9a. It will run Android 15 out of the box. Titan M2 coprocessor is also available for security.

The Pixel 9a has a 6.3-inch Actua display with a variable refresh rate between 60 to 120 Hz. The pOLED screen offers a peak brightness of 2,700 nits. The display is being protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Google has used a 5,100 mAh battery in Pixel 9a suitable for a 45 W adapter and is certified for wireless Qi-certified charging. Google claims over 30 hours battery back up on Pixel 9a.

It is IP68 rated as well for dust and water.

The Pixel 9a sports a 48 MP main camera with OIS and EIS along with a 13 MP ultrawide lens. It has a 13 MP front camera for selfies. The camera supports Night sight, macro, super res up to 8x, astrophotography, portrait mode.

With the Google’s Gemini running inside the Pixel 9a, gen AI features like magic editor, auto frame, magic eraser, best take, photo unblur and portrait light are also available.

Pixel 9a will be sold in two storage variants in India: 8 GB/128 GB and 8 GB/256 GB. It will come in Obsidian, Porcelain, and Iris shades starting at ₹49,999. Pixel 9a will retail on Flipkart, Reliance Digital and Croma starting April.
