Amazon to process voice recordings of Echo users on its cloud

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduAmazon will reportedly no longer be processing requests of Echo users locally, sending voice recordings to the company’s cloud. In an email sent to users, Amazon said that from March 28 recordings of every voice command given to Alexa living in Echo speakers and smart displays will automatically be sent to Amazon directly and processed in the cloud.
An opt-in setting that users could choose to prevent sharing audio requests from Alexa from being shared with the company will be removed.
The option was limited to the Echo Dot 4th generation, Echo Show 10 and Echo Show 15 devices for U.S. users who had set English as their language.
However, users will still be able to delete voice recordings after they are sent and processing on the cloud.
Amazon is preparing to launch the revamped GenAI-powered Alexa Plus later this month after a demo last month.
