Borderlands 4 September 18 Update patch notes take aim at PC stability

Borderlands 4's first update is out, attempting to address a number of bugs and performance issues with the game.

Gearbox has prepped the first notable post-release patch for Borderlands 4, and it comes after a doozy of a week in back and forth between players and the devs (mostly Randy Pitchford). Gearbox began with a statement addressing complaints and promising to fix up the game to player expectations, but this patch also aims to deliver some stability, especially on the PC end. Gearbox released the performance patch for Borderlands 4 on all platforms today, alongside its accompanying patch notes. The biggest thing on the list addresses PC performance. Gearbox has heard no shortage of complaints about stability, crashing, performance, and bugs out the wazoo, driving the game down to a Mixed rating in reviews on Steam. With this patch, hopefully that situation should clear up a bit, but Gearbox has also promised more fixes to make sure it continues to move Borderlands 4 in the right direction as more and more players dig in. Stability

  • Addressed crashes tied to animation states, audio, and collision checks
  • Addressed various GPU-related crashes

Gameplay & Progression

  • Resolved an issue where the Reward Center could stop working after claiming the Gilded Glory Pack rewards
  • Addressed a progression blocker in the mission “Talk to Zadra,” where the objective could fail if players exited and relaunched mid-dialogue
  • Corrected “Doesn’t own DLC” warnings incorrectly showing up on non-DLC gear

Loot & Items

  • Updated loot pools so Gilded Glory Pack guns no longer appear in standard chests
