UPDATE: Flood evacuees in Sarawak rise to 1,428 across 25 PPS statewide

KUCHING (Jan 9): The number of flood victims in Sarawak continues to rise, with 1,428 people evacuated to temporary evacuation centres (PPS) statewide as of this evening.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said that among the newly activated PPS late this afternoon were Surau Nur Hidayah Batu Kitang Jaya in Kuching and Kampung Maang Multipurpose Hall in Siburan.

In Serian, three PPS have been opened: Kampung Ensebang Padang Bilon Community Hall, Depo Balai Ringin, and SK Tebekang Hall.

In Tebedu, one PPS has been activated at Kampung Reteh Mawang, while in Dalat, new PPS are at Rh James, Sebaya Atas, and Sungai Baoh Burak.

In Miri, two PPS have been opened at Masjid Darul Iman Kampung Tudan Phase 2A and Tudan Community Centre Phase 4.

SDMC said it will continue to monitor the situation and update statewide evacuation numbers as the rising trend continues.
