We know that new consoles are coming, but when can we expect to be able to try and buy the PS6 and whatever the next-generation Xbox ends up being called? Well, insiders claim that both Sony and Microsoft are aiming to release their next-gen consoles at some point in 2027.

News of the PS6 release window comes from NeoGaf user KeplerL2, who has produced accurate reports on AMD hardware in the past. This prediction took place in a thread discussing PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny's recent comments on the future of PlayStation hardware — noting that the PS6 would arrive in "a few years' time."

While some speculated that this could mean a 2028 release, KeplerL2 claims that 2027 isn't just "on the table, it's the plan unless any unexpected delays happen."

Meanwhile, Moore's Law is Dead recently released a video detailing the AMD Magnus APU, which they claim will be used in the next Xbox console. The YouTuber then claimed multiple times that this console is also aiming for a 2027 release, despite previously claiming that it could arrive as soon as late 2026.

"It is targeting a 2027 launch, and I want to be clear that since the recent Xbox Magnus videos and RDNA 5 videos I have put out there, I’ve heard from even more sources that Microsoft is talking to partners behind the scenes and just openly saying 2027 is when Magnus launches."

Moore's Law is Dead also recently claimed that the PS6 should be launching in either late 2027 or early 2028 — which lines up with KeplerL2's claim.

Personally, I'm not too thrilled about the prospect of buying new consoles, even though I got my PS5 and Xbox Series X fairly early. More so since prices seem to keep going up to ridiculous amounts. But we'll have to wait and see how this all pans out over the coming years, and what Sony and Microsoft have in store for the next generation of gaming consoles.
