Oakley Meta Vanguard AI Glasses Capture Workouts in 3K

by · channelnews

Meta has unveiled a trio of new smart glasses at its Connect 2025 event, led by the athlete-focused Oakley Meta Vanguard.

The Vanguard glasses, which will retail for around A$750, offer real-time performance feedback, action-ready video capture and integrations with fitness platforms like Garmin and Strava.

The wraparound frames feature Oakley’s Prizm Lens technology to block out glare, wind and dust, while weighing just 66 grams. They also carry an IP67 water and dust resistance rating, making them Meta’s most durable frames yet.

At the centre sits a 12MP ultra-wide camera capable of recording in up to 3K resolution, with capture modes including Slow Motion, Hyperlapse and stabilised video. A new “autocapture” feature even records clips automatically when you hit milestones like distance, elevation or heart rate.

A promotional video (below) for the product features athletes including Kylian Mbappé, Patrick Mahomes and Mark Cavendish.

On the audio front, the Vanguard’s open-ear speakers are Meta’s loudest yet, six decibels more powerful than the Oakley Meta HSTN, with a five-microphone array tuned to reduce wind noise.

Battery life stretches to nine hours of mixed use, or six hours of music playback, with a charging case providing up to 36 extra hours. A quick 20-minute charge brings the glasses back to 50%.

Athletes can tap into Meta AI hands-free, asking for stats like pace or heart rate without breaking stride.

With Garmin devices, the glasses can also flash LED status lights in your peripheral vision to signal whether you’re on target.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2

Meta also announced the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses, with 12MP 3K cameras, improved battery life, and new video capture modes for hyperlapse and slow motion.

Meanwhile, the Meta Ray-Ban Display delivers augmented reality through translucent HUD lenses and a dedicated wristband, offering AI prompts, navigation, messages and video calls.

Significantly, Meta will open its smart glasses to outside developers via the Wearables Device Access Toolkit, allowing apps to leverage sensors, AI, and audio.

Early partners include Twitch, enabling livestreaming, and Disney, which is experimenting with AI features that guide visitors around its theme parks in real time

The Oakley Meta Vanguard launches globally on October 21, with four colour options available, alongside expanded Ray-Ban models and the first AR-enabled Meta Ray-Ban Display.
