DJI Unveils Smarter Smartphone Gimbal with 360° Tracking and Apple Support
by Joe Gallop · channelnewsDJI has unveiled its latest smartphone gimbal, the Osmo Mobile 8, bringing advanced tracking intelligence, 360° horizontal pan rotation and improved ergonomics to mobile creators.
The new flagship stabiliser combines Apple DockKit support with DJI’s proprietary ActiveTrack 7.0 system to deliver smoother, and more dynamic shooting experiences.
Weighing just 370 grams, the Osmo Mobile 8 is built for filming vlogs, livestreams or cinematic scenes.
Its 360° horizontal rotation allows seamless panoramic shots and low-angle footage, while a redesigned grip makes extended shooting sessions more comfortable.
The gimbal’s Multifunctional Module adds even more versatility, featuring adjustable fill lighting with eight brightness and colour levels, plus a built-in microphone receiver compatible with DJI Mic 3, Mic 2 and Mic Mini.
The module attaches magnetically and supports hand-gesture control for tracking, recording, or adjusting framing.
A major innovation this year is Apple DockKit integration, enabling iPhone users to take advantage of Apple’s native subject-tracking tech across more than 200 compatible apps, including the default Camera app.
Combined with DJI’s own ActiveTrack 7.0 via the Mimo app, the gimbal can now track people, pets or objects, keeping them in frame even in fast or crowded scenes.
For the first time, the Osmo Mobile 8 can also track cats and dogs, making it easier for pet owners and creators to capture spontaneous moments.
A built-in extension rod and tripod eliminates the need for extra accessories, while the gimbal’s 10-hour battery life and phone-charging capability make it ideal for all-day shooting.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 is available now through DJI’s online store and authorised Australian retailers for A$219. Optional accessories include the OM Magnetic Quick-Release Mount, Grip Tripod and the DJI Mic lineup.
DJI is also offering DJI Care Refresh plans for the Osmo Mobile 8, covering accidental damage, collisions and water exposure, with up to four replacements over two years.
