Amazon's little-known hack to get phones, laptops and tablets for hundreds less

Did you know there was a whole section of online retail giant, Amazon, that sells tech for a fraction of the price?

Amazon Renewed, a lesser-known section of the online retail giant's website, offers 'expertly refurbished products at great prices', providing an affordable alternative for those looking to invest in new tech devices.

The site sells a variety of second-hand items, including phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, game consoles, smart watches and cooking gadgets, all of which have been professionally inspected, tested, and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.

The aim of Amazon Renewed is not only to provide customers with high-quality, affordable tech but also to extend the lifetime of these devices and keep them out of landfills. Each product is restored to its original factory settings and categorised based on its cosmetic condition, Premium, Excellent, Good or Acceptable, similar to the categories used by competitors like Back Market.

Customers can rest assured that all renewed purchases come with the accessories that originally shipped with the product. While these may not be the original accessories, Amazon assures they will be "compatible and fully functional".

Furthermore, if customers are not fully satisfied with their purchase, they have one year to return it for a replacement or refund. Amazon Renewed is offering some deals that are significantly cheaper than buying the product brand new.

For instance, a refurbished Apple iPhone SE 3rd Gen 64GB is priced at £173, while the same phone brand new costs £429 at Argos, reports the Mirror.

However, it's worth bearing in mind that some renewed products can take a while to be dispatched. A case in point is the refurbished Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB, priced at £686.90, which is 'usually dispatched within six to seven months'.

This long wait time is certainly a downside to the lower price. On the other hand, some items are ready to ship immediately, like the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, available for £99.99 as an 'excellent' refurbished option.

Music Magpie is another alternative, selling a range of refurbished tech products at bargain prices. The retailer offers second-hand Nintendo Switch V2, available for purchase at £204.99.
