In context: Energizer is best known as a leading maker of batteries in the United States. However, Energizer Holdings has licensed the brand to the French company Avenir Telecom for various other products over the years. The latest addition is an affordable, low-end laptop marketed under the Energizer brand.

Energizer, one of the world's largest battery brands, will soon expand its product lineup with a series of portable computers called the "EnergyBook Classic." French company Avenir Telecom recently announced the new devices at CES, explaining that it wants to bring an accessible, affordable, yet durable PC system to a broad range of users.

The EnergyBook Classic laptops are aimed at students, casual users, and even professionals, although their hardware specs aren't exactly stellar. Avenir has developed two EnergyBook models: the first features a 15-inch screen with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the second offers a 17-inch screen with options for either 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

"From browsing the web, streaming media, or basic productivity tasks, the EnergyBook has you covered," Avenir said in its LinkedIn announcement.

Furthermore, the company says that EnergyBook Classic laptops come with long-term support and the ability to keep them up-to-date for "years to come." Focus on durability and long-term performance should make the new machines a good investment for people seeking a lasting device. However, customers should keep their expectations in check for any laptop costing only $200. Durability and energy efficiency can apply equally well to a potato.

The laptops start at $200 and will likely not support the latest large language models (or any other complex computing task). Avenir markets its low-end machines to customers, stating that the EnergyBook Classics are built to last thanks to energy-efficient and durable components and materials. Avenir also brags that it designed the laptops with sustainability in mind, using eco-friendly materials and 100-percent recyclable packaging.

Energizer is no stranger to diversifying beyond batteries, and this isn't Avenir's first foray into licensing the brand. Over the years, the company has sold several "Energizer" smartphones, focusing heavily on durability and long-lasting battery life to cash in on the brand's hallmark slogan: "It keeps going and going and going."
