Lenovo Legion Go 2 is official and it’s using the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme
Lenovo has unveiled the Legion Go 2 handheld gaming PC, revealing it will use AMD's latest gaming CPU to significantly outmuscle the Steam Deck.
by Edward Chester · PCGamesNThe Lenovo Legion Go 2 is here. Well, almost. Lenovo has revealed several details of the new handheld, including that is will use AMD’s latest top-tier mobile CPU. It’s design is still labelled as a prototype, though, and we’re yet to learn of its price or release date, other than it arriving some time in 2025.
The first-gen Lenovo Legion Go is one of the best handheld gaming PCs that money can buy, down in large part to its huge 8.8-inch, 1600p display but also its Nintendo Switch-aping removable controllers. Now Lenovo‘s finally back with a followup and it looks ever bit a hugely tempting upgrade.
Lenovo Legion Go 2 specs
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 specs include that it will be powered by the new AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme mobile CPU and it will use a new 8.8-inch, 144Hz OLED display with VRR support and a maximum brightness of 500nits. It will also retain its detachable controller feature but with a whole new, more rounded physical design.

Lenovo revealed these details as part of its CES 2025 gaming hardware reveal. The company posted on its website details of three upcoming new handheld gaming PCs, including the Lenovo Legion Go 2. The other two devices are new lower-tier models called Legion Go S, and they share the same physical design but one runs Windows, just as with the larger the Legion Go 2, while the other runs Steam OS, for a Steam Deck-like gaming experience.
Lenovo describes some of the advantages of the Legion Go S Steam OS as being “cloud saves that mean a seamless transition between PC gaming and handheld, Remote Play that streams games to the device from a PC, full Steam Store and Steam Library access.”
Back to the Legion Go 2, though, and Lenovo also revealed it will ship with 32GB of 7500MHz LPDDR5X RAM, which is double the amount in the original version. A pair of USB Type-C ports are also confirmed, so you’ll be able to hook the device up to charge as well as connect peripherals. Whether it will cope well with Asus’ new external RTX 5090 GPU, though, we’ll have to wait and see.
Although officially still a prototype, Lenovo describes the clearly more rounded, more comfortable-looking design of the Legion Go 2 as also including “rounded Lenovo Legion TrueStrike controllers with a circular D-pad for faster, more accurate inputs.”
The device also comes with up to 2TB of SSD storage and a 74Whr battery, though Lenovo makes no claims about the battery life of the device as yet.
Crucially, the AMD Z2 Extreme chip at the device’s heart should bring a boost in gaming performance, thanks to its 16 compute unit GPU, compared to the 12 CU GPU of its predecessor, plus AMD has made bold claims about the improved power efficiency of its fancy new chip.
Lenovo Legion Go 2 release date
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 release date is some time in 2025 but Lenovo hasn’t revealed a more precise time frame than this. The company says that gamers should “stay tuned as Lenovo prepares to bring this exciting innovation to life for gamers worldwide in 2025.”
Lenovo Legion Go 2 price speculation
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 price has not been revealed yet but we would speculate that it will be at least the same price as the original Legion Go when that device was released, which was $699.99.
