Instagram shows off alternative app to TikTok’s CapCut

The new video editing app will be released in March

While social media app TikTok struggles with a potential ban in the US, Instagram has announced that it will release a new video editing app for mobile videos, Edits.

The Verge writes that Edits is a clear competitor to TiktTok’s video editing app CapCut, which is also affected by the US ban.

“There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators,” Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri says in a new video on the social media app.

Edits is available to pre-order now via the iOS app store (though it is free). It will soon be available for Android as well ahead of its 13 March 2025 release date.
