Honor confirms launch date for its Galaxy A56 and Galaxy S25 rivals
200MP AI camera also tipped
by Jon Mundy · Tech AdvisorHonor has revealed that it will announce its Honor 400 smartphone series on 22 May, and has offered a glimpse at a key new camera feature, alongside news of early access to Android 16 for another of its phones.
Somewhat confusingly, we already saw the Honor 400 Lite in April. Within this context, however, the “Honor 400 Series” appears to refer to two new phones: seemingly the Honor 400 and the Honor 400 Pro, if leaks are to be believed.
We have a certain amount of confirmation for this because Honor has shared a 20 second teaser video showcasing two distinct phones. One is more squared off and has a dual camera set-up (presumably the Honor 400) while the other features a more rounded design, and packs a triple-camera system (almost certainly the Pro).
Expect a pixel-packed AI camera
One thing that both phones appear to share in common, at least, is a “200MP Ultra-Clear AI Camera”.
Honor claims that it’s “the most exciting AI camera phone of 2025”, and that it “redefines what’s possible in mobile photography and AI-powered imaging”. Count us intrigued.
We’ll need to wait a few more weeks for any more solid information, but we’re interested to see if this former Huawei subsidiary can take the next step and undercut the Samsung Galaxy A56 – and even potentially the Samsung Galaxy S25 with that Pro model.
Early Android 16 access
In other Honor news, the company has notified us that it is now offering developers access to Android 16 Beta 3 through its Honor Magic 7 Pro flagship phone.
This makes the phone one of the first devices to support Google’s OS preview build. Magic 7 Pro owners can check out how to install this preview here.
There’s clearly a budding partnership between Honor and Google here, given that the Honor Magic 6 Pro and the Honor Magic V2 were two of the first phones to receive access to the Android 15 Beta 1 last year.
Google, for its part, recently announced that it would hold a special ‘I/O Edition’ launch event on May 13, seemingly to unveil Android 16 ahead of Google I/O 2025.
