Apple's $599 Affordable MacBook Set to Enter Mass Production Soon

by · Android Headlines

Apple is known for its high-end devices, but new reports suggest the company is working on a more affordable MacBook that could change the game. This isn’t just a rumor—it’s coming from reliable sources in Apple’s supply chain. A fresh report reiterates that the “affordable” iPhone chip-powered MacBook will enter production this year, with a potential launch between late 2025 and early 2026.

Apple’s affordable MacBook with iPhone chip tipped for late 2025-early 2026 launch

The report comes from reliable tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who tends to be pretty accurate with his tips on Apple’s products. Their post on X/Twitter states that the affordable MacBook is “slated for mass production in 4Q25.

What makes this new laptop so different? For the first time, Apple is reportedly powering a Mac with an iPhone chip. Analysts believe the new, budget-friendly MacBook will use an A18 Pro chip. This processor is present in the iPhone 16 Pro models. This move would mark the first time a Mac has ever used an A-series chip.

This more affordable MacBook will be a lightweight powerhouse. It will reportedly feature a 12.9-inch display and have a starting price somewhere between $599 and $699. This could put it in a completely new price category for Mac laptops. For context, the current MacBook Air, which starts at $999, has a slightly larger screen and a more powerful M-series chip. This new model will slot in right below it, offering a more accessible entry point for students and casual users.

No Thunderbolt support, no touch screen support as some of the compromises

Of course, there are some trade-offs. Apple’s A-series chips won’t support Thunderbolt ports, for instance. Instead, it will use regular USB-C ports, which still work great but have slower data transfer speeds. Additionally, this new budget MacBook will not have a touch panel. If you’re not aware, the upcoming OLED MacBook Pro will boast a touch panel. That said, Kuo says the second generation of the affordable iPhone chip-powered MacBook may get touch-panel support.

The launch of an affordable MacBook could be a turning point in the industry. These devices would occupy price segments currently dominated by other brands and suppliers. Many Apple fans looking for a new laptop in this price range will likely prefer to purchase a MacBook that integrates seamlessly with their existing device ecosystem. It would be tough competition for upcoming ARM-powered laptops with Snapdragon chips, for example.
