iPhone 17 MagSafe Wireless Charging Will Put Samsung to Shame

by · Android Headlines

Companies like OnePlus and Xiaomi love to boast about the charging speeds on their phones. They like it so much that they have even named them. Apple, on the other hand, has never really spoken much about charging speeds. However, the company could have something to boast about with the iPhone 17 series, which, according to the latest rumors, could come with 45W MagSafe charging.

45W MagSafe coming to iPhone 17

91mobiles has discovered some evidence on Taiwan’s NCC website that suggests that the iPhone 17 series could arrive with 45W MagSafe charging. This is thanks to Apple apparently adopting the Qi 2.2 protocol. This updated version of Qi 2 will allow wireless charging speeds to go up to 45W.

Currently, Apple’s MagSafe only goes up to 25W, and that’s only if you use it with a 30W power adapter. However, the upcoming MagSafe adapter spotted by the source offers 45W of power. The brick is also compatible with previous generations of iPhone, as it has been tested on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 11. However, probably only a Qi 2.2-supported device will get the maximum charging speeds.

Bumping it to 45W means almost double the charging speeds. If this is true, then this is a big deal. It beats Apple’s rival, Samsung, where the Galaxy S25 Ultra has a max wireless charging speed of 15W. Apple has addressed charging speeds briefly in past announcements, but at 45W, it could be one of the main focuses of the iPhone 17.

Other improvements in Qi 2.2 include better magnetic alignment. It is also said to be more efficient, and it is backward compatible. This means that you can use Qi 2.2 chargers with Qi 2 phones, but you won’t get the same speeds.

What else can we expect from the iPhone 17?

Apple will announce the iPhone 17 series later this year, possibly in September. The iPhone 17 will be Apple’s flagship lineup for 2025. It will consist of the base iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, unlike previous years, Apple will ditch the launch of the iPhone 17 Plus.

According to the rumors, Apple plans to replace it with the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. The company is expected to compromise on the specs of the phone to fit its components into its ultra-thin body. However, it will sport a brand-new design. This is something Apple is hoping will appeal enough to customers to overlook its lackluster specs.
