Apple Reportedly Planning Touchscreen MacBook Pro Overhaul for 2026
by Tyler Lee · Android HeadlinesYesterday, Apple unveiled its latest MacBook Pro laptop powered by its new M5 chip. For the most part, the laptop is the same as its predecessor, save for the performance and efficiency upgrades, thanks to the M5 chip. If you don’t have an immediate need to upgrade now, then maybe holding off until 2026 for the next Apple MacBook Pro could be a good idea.
Apple to overhaul MacBook Pro in 2026
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is reportedly planning a major overhaul of its MacBook Pro in 2026. This new model is rumored to arrive in either late 2026 or early 2027. But what kind of changes can we expect? For starters, it is rumored to be powered by the M6 chip, but most interestingly, it could feature a touchscreen display.
Yes, you read that right. After years of Apple avoiding putting touchscreens in their computers (unless you count the Touch Bar), the company could finally introduce touchscreen displays in its MacBook lineup. The company will still retain the keyboard and trackpad.
This means that for all intents and purposes, it is still a traditional laptop. However, it will have an added touchscreen in case you need to use it. The report also claims that Apple could ditch the notch in the display in favor of a hole-punch cutout. This makes sense, especially if Apple wants to give users slightly more screen real estate.
Now, if you’ve ever used a Windows laptop with a touchscreen display, you know it can be annoying when you tap on the screen and the display moves or bounces back. Apparently, Apple has fixed that problem. The company is said to have developed a “reinforced hinge” to prevent that from happening.
Lastly, Gurman also claims the new MacBook Pro design will be thinner and lighter than current models. This could be a welcome upgrade, even if you don’t plan to use the touchscreen.
What about the M5 Pro and M5 Max?
If you don’t want to wait too long and the base M5 chip isn’t powerful enough for you, don’t worry. According to the rumors, Apple still has plans for more powerful variants of the M5 MacBook Pro. The company is rumored to launch other MacBook Pro configurations in 2026 that will use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets.
