Samsung Starts Rolling Out One UI 8: New Features & Devices That Will Get It
by Jean Leon · Android HeadlinesSamsung has finally started the official stable rollout of One UI 8. This Android 16-based update integrates multiple UI refinements and new AI capabilities. The company is shipping it first to the Galaxy S25 series and will subsequently reach other eligible models, including the Galaxy S24 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, later this year.
Samsung begins One UI 8 rollout with these new features
One UI 8 aims to enhance the proactive capabilities introduced in One UI 7. The update provides useful suggestions based on user context and routines. It also incorporates security features designed to protect private data.
Now Brief, for example, offers personalized daily updates on information such as traffic, reminders, and health insights from a connected Galaxy Watch. The update also introduces Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), a new security architecture that creates app-specific encrypted storage environments to secure sensitive information processed by the device’s AI.
Additionally, Knox Matrix includes a feature that automatically signs devices out of a Samsung Account if a serious security risk is detected. Meanwhile, the improved Secure Wi-Fi has a new cryptographic framework to enhance network protection over public connections.
One UI 8 boosts multimodal AI on Galaxy phones. This approach combines visual, auditory, and contextual intelligence to streamline user interaction with Galaxy devices. Gemini Live, for instance, allows for real-time communication with an AI that can understand on-screen content. This eliminates the need to switch between applications. Similarly, Google’s Circle to Search now has improved translation capabilities, allowing for instant, on-screen translations of text from various sources, such as news articles and social media posts.
Boosting the big-screen form factor
Beyond AI, the update is adapted to the unique hardware of Galaxy smartphones and tablets. A new AI Results View displays AI-generated results in a separate view, ensuring that the original content remains visible. On large-screen devices, the enhanced Multi Window lets users easily drag and drop AI-generated content, including images and text, directly into their workflow. FlexWindow, a feature exclusive to Z Flip models, lets you use Gemini via hands-free voice search without unfolding your device.
The update also includes features and improvements like Audio Eraser. This new toggle in video and audio apps can proactively detect and remove unwanted background noise with a single tap. Lastly, a new clock design adapts to match the user’s wallpaper, allowing for customized font size, color, and thickness.
