Android Auto 15.2 Update Leaves Quick Controls Broken for Many Users
by Chandan Pandit · Android HeadlinesAndroid Auto recently got a new update, version 15.2, and it has left quick controls broken. Users are complaining online that this particular update is turning out to be more of a headache than an upgrade. It has, knowingly or unknowingly, disabled one of its most used tools. Widgets that were earlier used to make multitasking easier now appear to be broken with the update.
Quick controls are broken on the Android Auto 15.2 update
For years, the Quick Controls widgets have been one of the most handy features of Android Auto. It lets the user adjust media playback or check navigation direction directly on the screen, without switching apps. But after the recent 15.2 update, many users are reporting that the feature no longer works as intended. It crashes more often when used on the vertically oriented dashboard screens.
Until now, the taskbar used to be moved to the bottom to turn on Quick Controls in such a setup. But with the new update, activating it does nothing at all, keeping the bar locked on the side. Some users have also reported that this issue has been there for months and are calling it “annoying” and “unusable.”
Horizontal screen setups are thankfully unaffected
The particular issue only affected vertically oriented dashboard screens, which is a relief for those using horizontal screen setups. Also, there is some confusion about whether this particular issue is a bug or a planned phase-out process. However, since the issue only affects certain screen orientations and doesn’t largely affect the system, it is unlikely to be a planned change. Some also argue that it’s a technical slip-up.
But either way, Google has not yet acknowledged the issue, which further irritates the customers. And as of now, no fix or patch has been confirmed. So the only thing the users can do at the moment is — wait.
