Meta’s New Smart Glasses Leak: Now With a Screen in Your Face
by Tyler Lee · Android HeadlinesWhen we think about the vitriol Google Glass received when it first launched, it serves as a stark contrast to wearables today, like Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which seems to be quite popular. However, compared to Google Glass, the Ray-Ban glasses feel quite “basic,” but Meta is expected to change that. In a recently leaked video, it shows off the upcoming Meta smart glasses with a built-in display.
Meta smart glasses with display teaser video leaked
In the teaser video, shared on X by SadlyItsDadley, it shows Meta’s upcoming range of new wearables. In one particular section of the video, it clearly depicts a pair of Meta smart glasses with a built-in display that lets users summon and interact with Meta AI. Unfortunately, the video doesn’t really dive into the details of the wearable. The good news is we won’t have to wait much longer for it.
Meta will be hosting its Connect event on September 17. That is when the company will most likely take the wraps off new hardware like smart glasses. However, what we do know so far is that one of the features of the glasses is that it comes with an EMG wristband. This will be how users will interact with it.
Users will apparently be able to control the glasses through a series of gestures. The use of the EMG wristband will help detect actions like pinching and tapping. In a way, it reminds us of Apple’s Vision Pro, which also allows users to interact with the headset through hand gestures.
It’s been a while coming
This is actually not the first time we’ve heard about Meta’s plans for a pair of glasses with a built-in display. Meta actually confirmed this in 2024 when it showed off a prototype device called Orion. However, back then Meta said there were no plans to put Orion up for sale. Instead, the company would be using Orion as a way to gather feedback before releasing a cheaper version.
We don’t know how much these Meta glasses with a built-in display will cost. However, last we heard, it could be priced around $800. That’s significantly more expensive than the current Ray-Ban smart glasses, but still cheaper than headsets like the Vision Pro. We imagine that having a built-in display would unlock a lot more possibilities for users, such as turn-by-turn navigation, for example.
Either way, we should have more details at Connect soon, so check back with us later for more updates.
