Samsung’s First Tri-Fold to Pack the Same Chip as the Galaxy S25
by Kristijan Lucic · Android HeadlinesThe processor Samsung plans to use in its first tri-fold smartphone is not exactly a surprise. Thanks to One UI 8.0, we now have an idea what processor will the company use to fuel that smartphone.
One UI 8 build confirmed the Snapdragon 8 Elite as the chip of choice for Samsung’s first tri-fold
Many people expect this smartphone to use a chip from Qualcomm, and that’s exactly what will happen. Android Authority managed to find a mention of the chip’s model number in One UI 8. It’s present in the latest internal beta version of the OS. A string code was spotted: siop_q7mq_sm8750.
Now, the Q7M is the internal codename for Samsung’s first tri-fold handset. The SM8750, on the other hand, is the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s model number. So, Samsung will reach for the Snapdragon 8 Elite for this phone, a chip that fuels the Samsung Galaxy S25 series and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
It’s easy to assume that this phone will ship with Android 16 out of the box. Samsung’s One Ui 8 skin will be included on top of it. It’s also safe to assume that the company will offer 7 years of Android OS updates and security updates. That’s the flagship treatment the company offers.
The Galaxy Z TriFold name was recently trademarked by Samsung
Now, as some of you may recall, Samsung trademarked the Galaxy Z TriFold name quite recently. While we don’t believe that’s the name the company will use, anything is possible at this point.
Samsung’s first tri-fold is rumored to have a 10-inch foldable display with two hinges. It is also expected to include three cameras on the back. It will be different than the Huawei Mate XT, it will fold differently.
Samsung’s iteration will have a cover screen and an inner foldable screen that folds twice inside. That way, the display won’t be as exposed when the device is folded. That design immediately offers more protection than the Mate XT’s.
This smartphone will be quite expensive, almost $3,000 based on some recent rumors. It’s expected to launch in October, and it will likely be exclusive to China and South Korea.
