iPhone 17 Battery Capacities Revealed: Small Gains Across the Lineup

by · Android Headlines

Battery life on Apple’s iPhones have always been somewhat contentious. They’ve always been somewhere in the middle, big enough where it’s hard to complain about battery life, but smaller when compared to Android phones. If you’re wondering how the iPhone 17 battery capacities fare, here are the details.

iPhone 17 battery capacities revealed in full

In a couple of posts on X by Abhishek Yadav and ShrimpApplePro, the battery capacities of the iPhone 17 lineup have been revealed. Once again, it doesn’t look like there’s really much to shout about.

Starting with the base iPhone 17 model, it features a 3,692mAh battery, which is about a 3.6% gain over its predecessor. Then, the iPhone 17 Pro has a 4,252mAh battery, which is an 18.6% gain over the iPhone 16 Pro. As for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it comes with a 5,088mAh battery, an 8.6% improvement over last year’s model.

As for the iPhone 17 Air, the post claims it will sport a 3,149mAh battery. While the Air is a brand new model, it replaces the Plus. So, if we’re comparing it to the iPhone 16 Plus, it’s actually a 48% smaller battery. This is not the first time we’re hearing that the Air could feature a smaller battery. However, could the use of the more efficient A19 Pro chipset offset those changes? We’ll have to wait and see.

Decent battery improvements

That being said, based on the battery sizes, it looks like Apple is giving users small upgrades. It’s not a particularly huge upgrade, but it’s there. At the same time, maybe the newer hardware features could consume more energy where the upgrades merely help to offset it.

At the same time, like we said earlier, Apple will use its new A19 chipset. Assuming there are improvements in its efficiency, we could be looking at potentially longer battery life. One thing worth noting is that Apple controls most of the hardware and software on its iPhones. This means that unlike Android phones, Apple has a bigger say on how much resources apps and iOS can use. This definitely allowed Apple to get by with smaller batteries compared to Android phones.

Either way, we’ll find out more tomorrow at Apple’s iPhone event. So, do check back with us then if you’d like all the details!
