Samsung Starts the One UI 8 Update Rollout for Galaxy Tab S9
by Tyler Lee · Android HeadlinesThe Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series was launched back in 2023, two years ago. If you’re still holding onto the tablet and haven’t bothered upgrading to the Galaxy Tab S11, we have some good news for you. According to a report from SamMobile, Samsung has finally released the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy Tab S9, giving it a breath of fresh air.
One UI 8 starts rolling out to Galaxy Tab S9
As part of the update for the Galaxy Tab S9, One UI 8 expands Galaxy AI capabilities with features designed for tablets. For instance, Portrait Studio now includes pet portrait effects for animal lovers. AI text selection also works faster for copying and pasting content. The update also improves layouts for translated or summarized content, making it easier to read. Samsung also added language translation for emergency alerts, so you can understand critical notifications even when traveling in foreign countries.
Samsung redesigned several productivity features as part of its Android 16 update. The My Files app now displays file paths and opens folders in a new pane for smoother navigation on the large screen. The Calendar app gained a multi-pane view optimized for tablets, with simpler ways to add reminders and entries. Meanwhile, the Reminders app got a cleaner interface with sample reminders to help new users get started quickly.
Users can also look forward to refinements across the UI. The lock screen features a new clock design, enhanced widgets, and wallpaper suggestions. The Now Bar adds stock price tracking and sticky notes within Samsung Notes. The notification bar now blurs only a small portion of content instead of the entire screen, while the dock displays recently used apps on the side to match the taskbar.
Also, if you’re someone that multitasks a lot, One UI 8 offers flexible screen space allocation for split views, letting you adjust how much room each app gets. This is a big deal, especially now that there is support for three apps running side-by-side.
Global Rollout Underway
According to SamMobile, Samsung began rolling out One UI 8 to Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, and S9 Ultra users in Asia, Europe, North America, and Latin America. As usual, the update will roll out in phases. This means that if you haven’t received a notification yet, don’t worry; it will eventually make its way to you. Alternatively, you can always try and pull it manually by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
