Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra Zoom Camera Might Disappoint You
by Kristijan Lucic · Android HeadlinesA new report has just revealed more information about the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra’s zoom camera. Some of you will be disappointed by what it says, though, that’s for sure.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s periscope telephoto zoom camera remains unchanged
According to GalaxyClub, the Galaxy S26 Ultra will use a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with a 1/2.52-inch camera sensor. It will offer a 5x optical zoom, 0.7um pixel size, PDAF, and OIS support.
Some of you probably noticed that it’s the same periscope telephoto camera that Samsung used in the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra. It would be nice to see a larger sensor used, but, there you go.
We’re not sure if the second telephoto camera will be included, but if it does, it could be a regular telephoto unit, as Samsung has been using thus far. It would sure be nice to see a secondary periscope telephoto unit, though.
Samsung could have used a larger sensor
Some camera-focused smartphones from China have a lot better periscope telephoto cameras, with larger sensors. For example, the Vivo X200 Ultra utilizes a 1/1.4-inch camera sensor for its periscope telephoto camera.
This Galaxy S26 Ultra information doesn’t really come as a surprise, though. Not many people expected Samsung to make a big push forward with the periscope telephoto camera on the phone.
The phone is tipped to include a 200-megapixel main camera, along with a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. We still don’t know all the details just yet, however, so we’ll have to wait. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is not coming until January 2026. Well, at least based by Samsung’s Galaxy S series launches in previous years.
Samsung’s focus now is on the second Unpacked event of 2025, which will take place on July 9. The company will annunce the Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 there, along with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series.
