T-Mobile Unveils T Phone 3 and T Tablet 2 with Perplexity AI Integration
by Lake Adedamola · Android HeadlinesIf you’ve ever wondered what a fully AI-dependent smartphone would feel like, take a seat. Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile, just launched such a phone. The phone is the T Phone 3; alongside a tablet, the T Tablet 2. GSM Arena reports that both devices run the Magenta AI operating system based on Android 15.
Here are the specs for the T Phone 3 and the T Tablet 2
Both devices run the same Perplexity AI. You only need to hit the Magenta AI button on the home screen or the power button to interface with Perplexity AI.
The T Phone 3 packs a 6.58-inch LTPS LCD and is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery with 25W charging. It sits comfortably as an entry phone priced at €149. The back of the phone features a dual camera setup, a 50 MP main camera, and a 2 MP micro shooter. The front has a waterdrop notch with a 13 MP selfie camera sitting in the nook of it. For a phone at this price range, other regulars include the prominent chin at the base and thick bezels framing the sides. It comes in a cool Icy silver color and is available from the carrier provider free with certain monthly plans.
The T Tablet 2, however, is a 10.1-inch IPS LCD device with an FHD+ screen boasting the TCL Nxtpaper display, making it ideal for people who read a lot. The Nxtpaper from TCL mimics natural paper and doesn’t strain the eyes. It has a 6GB RAM / 128GB configuration to keep things running smoothly on the artificial intelligence side. To further keep the tablet up to date, T-Mobile is promising 3 Android upgrade cycles and 6 years of software support.
The tablet has a stylus you can pick up for €29.95. Also, it runs on a MediaTek chipset, the MT8755, that supports 5G connectivity and a dual nano-SIM setup. The device packs a 6,000 mAh battery with 15 W charging. T-Mobile is promising 5 Android upgrades and over 6 years of software support.
For a Phone and Tablet at these prices, what do you get?
There is no doubt that there is a target market for a phone and tablet priced and specced at these price ranges. However, you shouldn’t let those be the sole deciding factor if the devices appeal to you.
The image below from GSM Arena illustrates the functionality you can easily call up on the T Phone 3. Because it has Perplexity AI baked into its operating system, such things as sending an email, translating a message, and scheduling an event are what you just tell it to do. Is this a voice-only operated device, then? It does appear that these commands take up what you normally would do between different apps.
Both devices are available in a handful of European countries, including Germany, Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Greece, and Slovakia. Deutsche Telekom also confirmed that a Pro version of the T Phone 3 is expected later this year.
