Steam Machine Reservations Are Already Being Flipped on eBay for Up to $2,900

by · OnMSFT

Scalpers have already started flipping Steam Machine reservations on eBay, even before Valve’s new console officially reaches buyers on June 29, 2026. The listings show how quickly limited hardware can turn into a resale market, especially when early demand looks strong and supply appears tight.

According to the reference listings, one Steam Machine 2TB Console reservation appeared on eBay for $2,899, while another listing showed a price close to $2,700. These prices sit far above Valve’s expected official price of around $1,349 to $1,400 for the 2TB model with the controller.

Scalpers Are Selling Reservations, Not Units

The main issue here is that these sellers do not even have the Steam Machine in hand. They are selling reservation spots, which means buyers are paying a huge premium just for the chance to receive the console later.

This resale pricing makes little sense for most users, since a $2,700 to $2,900 budget already gets a powerful gaming PC with better hardware, more upgrade options, 32GB RAM, a 2TB SSD, and a faster graphics card setup.

Scalping continues because some buyers accept inflated prices during limited launches. However, paying nearly double for a reservation adds unnecessary risk, especially when the official launch is so close.
