Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has been granted bail by a Magistrate Court sitting in Kuje Area Council of Abuja on Friday, October 24, after he was detained for convening the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest.

However, the police immediately re-arrested him after he stepped out of the court. The 2027 presidential hopeful was expected to be arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, October 27, for another offence.

Recall that Sowore, with Nnamdi Kanu's brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and a former member of the detained IPOB leader's legal team, along with ten others, earlier met their bail conditions.

The court asked them to pay the sum of N500,000 each for their bail, with two sureties residing in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who also possessed valid identification with three years' tax clearance.

Why Sowore was re-arrested

After they fulfilled their bail conditions, Sowore was immediately re-arrested and whisked away by some police officers to the Kuje prison after the proceedings.

His re-arraignment for fresh charges scheduled for Monday, October 27, would be on the charges related to his claim that President Bola Tinubu is a criminal.

Sowore's lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has been seen in a viral video addressing journalists. He alleged that about 50 police officers assaulted his client.

Nigerians react to Sowore's re-arrest

However, Adeyanju's comment has started generating mixed reactions from some Nigerians.

Below are some of their reactions:

Heyman commented:

"If someone called your IGP useless, let IGP sue him, but we all know that wasn't the reason, the reason is that they are ashamed and embarrassed that they granted bail by the magistrate court."

Omo Oba Adekunle said the two parties can't be trusted:

"I don’t trust pol!ce, I don’t trust Dej! too."

Ban Samuel commented:

"The world is watching how everyone is behaving under this government."

Omosule Idowu accused the lawyer:

"Deji, you are already doing the same thing you are blaming Peter Obi for, and that is lying to the public to manipulate them. Y’all are the same."

Boban called it a charade:

"If you can't see through this charade, then I'm sorry for you."

Court fixes date to hear Sowore vs Police suit

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the hearing of the suit filed by the police against Omoyele Sowore and others arrested for protesting for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Sowore and others were expected to appear before the court and argue why the court's earlier interim order should be vacated.

The AAC 2019 and 2023 presidential candidate was arrested alongside Kanu's lawyer and brother during the protest based on a court injunction banning the protest.
