BJP’s Samrat Choudhary Sworn In as Bihar Chief Minister

PATNA, Apr 15: BJP leader Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Wednesday, becoming the first from the saffron party to occupy the top post in the state. Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office and secrecy.

Top leaders of the ruling NDA in Bihar, comprising the BJP, JD(U) and three other parties, attended the ceremony, including Union Ministers J. P. Nadda and Chirag Paswan, along with Nitish Kumar and NDA MLAs.

Nitish Kumar, now a Rajya Sabha MP, resigned as Chief Minister on Tuesday after dissolving his cabinet, in which Choudhary served as Deputy Chief Minister and held the key home portfolio.

Choudhary, who joined the BJP in 2017, was elected leader of the legislative party on Tuesday in the presence of senior leaders, including BJP chief Nitin Nabin and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, appointed by the parliamentary board as central observer for the transition. (Agencies)
