Jonathan mourns Bayelsa Deputy Governor
by Ifunanya Obeme-Ndukwe · Daily PostFormer President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed sorrow over the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing his passing as a painful loss to the state and the nation.
In a condolence statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, Jonathan said he received the news of Ewhrudjakpo’s death “with deep shock and sadness,” noting that the late deputy governor was a committed public servant who devoted his life to the welfare of the people.
He described Ewhrudjakpo as “a devoted steward of Bayelsa, a patriot, and a loyal servant of our state and nation,” adding that his years in public service earned him widespread respect and admiration.
Jonathan said the late politician distinguished himself in every role he occupied, from commissioner to senator and later deputy governor.
The former president noted that Ewhrudjakpo’s death is “a profound loss to the Government and people of Bayelsa State, his immediate family and to all of us who knew him closely.”
Jonathan said the deputy governor would be remembered for his integrity, service and steadfast commitment to the development and progress of Bayelsa.
He extended his condolences to the family of the late deputy governor and the Bayelsa State Government, urging them to take comfort in what he described as Ewhrudjakpo’s impactful life of service.
