Preparations are underway to disburse loans in January 2026 for the reconstruction of areas affected by the powerful earthquake.

The fourth meeting (4/2025) of the Central Committee for the Supervision of the Reconstruction Fund for Areas Affected by the Major Mandalay Earthquake was held on December 23 at the Central Bank of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw, according to the reports.

The meeting was attended by the Chairperson of the Central Committee and Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar, Daw Than Than Swe, along with members from the Ministry of Planning and Finance; the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation; the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development; the Ministry of Industry; the Ministry of Commerce; the Ministry of Construction; the National Disaster Management Committee; and the Office of the Union Auditor General.

At the meeting, the Governor of the Central Bank delivered opening remarks, after which committee members discussed the loan requirements submitted by the Fund Management Task Force. Discussions focused on ensuring that earthquake-related loans comply with the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as determining the types of land that should be accepted as collateral in line with the recommendations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the Ministry of Construction, and the Office of the Union Auditor General.

In addition, members of the supporting working groups carefully reviewed the requirements for banks and non-bank financial institutions. They discussed the maximum loan amount that can be disbursed per loan to enable lending within January 2026, and instructed Central Committee members to work toward establishing a more robust and effective loan assessment framework.
