Office Box: ‘Practical Magic 2’ fizzles with $30 million debut

HOLLYWOOD - “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” was finally dethroned after a six-week streak at No. 1, falling to Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman’s mystical sequel, “Practical Magic 2.”

“Practical Magic 2” landed at No. 1. By Sunday, the Warner Bros. earned $30 million over the traditional weekend, good enough for a first-place finish for the weekend.

Based on the novel by Alice Hoffman, the film followed magical sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, young witches who work to break a generational curse that kills any man they fall in love with.

Universal’s “The Odyssey” landed in third place. Through nine weekends, Christopher Nolan’s historical epic should reach a domestic haul of $601 million. (Source: Variety)
