Liam Payne signed up to be a judge with Nicole Scherzinger on new Netflix reality talent show

Liam Payne was set to judge with Nicole Scherzinger on X Factor-style Netflix reality show

Prior to his shock death in Argentina at the age of 31, Liam Payne had signed up to be a judge alongside X Factor mentor Nicole Scherzinger, taking him 'full circle' after she helped form One Direction

Liam Payne was set to be one of the judges on new Netflix talent show, Building The Band, from which a new pop group would be formed.

The format would mean a new music group would be created, but none of the members would meet each other until the final reveal. Liam would have appeared alongside Nicole Scherzinger, Destiny's Child star Kelly Rowland and Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean, who was set to host.

The streamer announced: "As former members of The Pussycat Dolls, Destiny’s Child, One Direction, and the Backstreet Boys, respectively, these hitmakers will bring their unparalleled expertise and years of personal experience to the competition."

Filming had already kicked off, after stars of the show were spotted in Manchester for rehearsals, which was set to be filmed at the city's brand new £240m Aviva Studios. Liam was seen at Manchester's Sexy Fish with his girlfriend, iunfluencer Kate Cassidy.

Netflix hasn't confirmed if the show will still be airing. The Mirror has contacted the streaming service for comment.

Back in May, Netflix gave more details on the new show, saying: "When it comes to love, meeting face-to-face is clearly overrated. But what about music? The upcoming series, currently titled Building the Band, will attempt to answer this question by forming the next great music group without any of the members ever seeing each other. Fifty talented singers will enter the competition for the opportunity of a lifetime: to find their perfect bandmates solely based on musical compatibility, connection, and, most importantly, merit.

"They’ll be in complete control every step of the way, but is chemistry enough to make them a success? And when the bands finally do meet, how will looks, choreography, and style come into play? Expect plenty of drama, next-level artistry, and unforgettable performances."

It would have been an exciting time for Liam, who would have been working alongside Nicole - one of the judges on the panel with Simon Cowell when One Direction was formed on The X Factor.

One of Liam's 1D bandmates posted an emotional tribute to Liam, a day after the star tragically fell to his death from a third floor hotel balcony in Argentina. Louis Tomlinson revealed he and Liam were planning to make new music together.

The touching tribute saw Louis call Liam one of his best friends and the "most vital part of One Direction". Alongside a pair of the two embracing and smiling, Louis wrote: "Liam was an incredible song writer with a great sense of melody, we often spoke of getting back in the studio together to try and recreate the writing chemistry we had built up in the band."

He added: "I would have loved to share the stage with you again but it wasn’t to be," he continued before saying he wishes he could have said a proper goodbye and tell him he loved him.
