Louis Tomlinson released a heartbreaking tribute to former One Direction band mate Liam Payne following his death at 31.

Louis took to Instagram to share a lengthy post a day after the star fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Argentina. And Louis had news that would have sent all 1D fans wild if it had came to fruition. He claimed the pair had often spoke of making music together and hoped to recreate their chemistry from their days together in a band. Sadly, that will never happen now.

The touching tribute saw Louis call Liam one of his best friends and the "most vital part of One Direction". Alongside a pair of the two embracing and smiling, Louis wrote: "Liam was an incredible song writer with a great sense of melody, we often spoke of getting back in the studio together to try and recreate the writing chemistry we had built up in the band.

"And for the record, Liam was in my opinion the most vital part of One Direction. His experience from a young age, his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing. The list goes on. Thank you for shaping us Liam."

He went on to send a message to Liam, saying he felt "beyond lucky" to have had him in his life. He admitted the pair's bond had grown stronger since the band and said they would spend hours speaking to each other on the phone about their memories. In a heartbreaking comment, Louis said he thought that would be a "luxury" he would have had for his whole life.

"I would have loved to share the stage with you again but it wasn’t to be," he continued before saying he wishes he could have said a proper goodbye and tell him he loved him.

Louis also made a promise in regard to Liam's son, Bear, with whom he shares with Cheryl. Louis penned: "I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me I will be the Uncle he needs in his life and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was."

On Wednesday, news broke of Liam's death in Argentina. He fell from the third floor of a hotel building in the Buenos Aires and police, firefighters and ambulances were seen outside of the building after the fatal incident. Police are said to have been called to reports of a man acting aggressively at the hotel who could be under the effect of drink or drugs.

A body was found in an internal patio of the hotel. The police were called to the hotel by the hotel manager. It's believed that Liam fell from around 13 or 14 metres and suffered "very serious injuries incompatible with life." While City ambulance service provider spokesman Alberto Crescenti said he had fallen around 40 feet and suffered “severe injuries which were incompatible with life.”
