Liquor scam: SC asks Mithun Reddy to approach HC for anticipatory bail

The Supreme Court has directed YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Mithun Reddy to seek anticipatory bail from the Andhra Pradesh High Court in connection with the liquor scam case.

On Tuesday, the apex court advised him to approach the High Court, noting that circumstances have changed since his earlier petition was dismissed. At that time, the High Court had rejected his plea because he had not yet been named an accused, and the government had assured the court that there was no intention to arrest him.

However, the government has now informed the court that Mr. Mithun Reddy has officially been added as an accused in the case.

Given this development, the bench headed by Justice Parthiwala advised the High Court to re-examine the matter based on its merits. The Supreme Court also revoked the interim protection earlier granted to Mr. Mithun Reddy. It suggested that the High Court should decide on his bail plea within four weeks.
