A.P. liquor scam: SIT arrests Bharati Cements director Balaji Govindappa in Mysore

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Special Investigation Team (SIT) police reportedly arrested Bharati Cements director Balaji Govindappa in the alleged multi-crore liquor scam.
Mr. Balaji Govindappa was absconding for the last few days. Police arrested him at Mysore on Tuesday (May 13, 2025), and he will be brought to Vijayawada. The SIT will produce Balaji Govindappa in the court here.
It was alleged that the Bharati Cements director, along with a few YSR Congress party leaders received kickbacks from some distilleries and diverted money to some shell companies causing huge loss to government’s exchequer from 2019 to 2024.
SIT police questioned a few suspects and arrested some accused in the liquor scam so far.
