Police appeal for help identifying driver seen near Deurne tracks before rail sabotage

Police are looking for a specific driver in connection with the acts of sabotage that have brought many train routes to a halt in the central, eastern, and northern parts of the country.

The officers saw that camera footage from the night of September 14 into September 15 shows a station car at 3:24 and 3:29 a.m. just before a speed bump on Griendtsveenseweg. “We would like to learn more about this driver,” the police wrote in a press release. They have, therefore, asked anyone who saw anything between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. on or around the tracks along Griendtsveenseweg in Deurne.

“At present, seven disruptions remain. We are doing everything we can to respond as effectively as possible,” said a ProRail spokesperson. “Contractors are going to the sites immediately to remove material from the tracks and secure it. In the meantime, we have stepped up patrols along the line and are using camera surveillance. But we have 7,000 kilometers of track that we cannot protect.”

So far, ProRail said there were about 30 locations where they found debris, like metal pipes, placed on the track. Aside from the pipes, iron beams were also found.

Police are investigating. So is the domestic security service AIVD.
