The development comes amid a batch of petitions filed by political leaders and religious groups against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which was recently passed by the centre in the Parliament.

The Supreme Court will on Wednesday hear 73 petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, on grounds ranging from alleged religious discrimination and executive overreach to dilution of Waqf protections.

In a significant development, six BJP-ruled states including Madhya Pradesh and Assam have approached the Supreme Court to support the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.

Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Uttarakhand have filed pleas asserting that the Act is constitutionally sound, non-discriminatory, and essential for ensuring efficient and accountable administration of Waqf assets.
