At least 33 Maoists, 17 of them carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 49 lakh, surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Friday, police said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday asked all underground Maoists to surrender as soon as possible and join the mainstream, saying the government is determined to free the country from the scourge of Maoism before March 31, 2026.

At least 22 Maoists, 12 of them carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 40.5 lakh, surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Friday, police said.
